The Blogger

Ok so the name is Steph….

I am a twenty-three year old journalism and English graduate, currently working in marketing and business development for a law firm. I love to write and communicate about literally anything! If you have read my blog then this wont be news to you. I’m just starting out in life and feeling quite small in the big wider world, but also excited about all the things ahead of me that I have yet to experience. No one knows what the future holds, I certainly have no idea where I will end up, or what I’ll be doing in years to come, but if even a small part of the person I am now remains, then I am pretty sure I will be writing about it!

I am an advocate for animals and just general kindness to all, I suppose you could class me as a bit of a hippy on the sly with my ‘do a good deed a day’ view towards life, but I truly believe that one small act of kindness to a stranger or friend, will encourage others to do the same, until eventually you find yourself a link in a long chain of happiness that you started. Of course that being said I’m not all ‘flower power’ I am a 21st century girl and I like my comforts! I am completely addicted to music of all kinds, I have very eclectic taste. If marriage to inanimate objects was allowed, then I would be engaged to my Ipod already, as its one of the best things I have in my life, and couldn’t live without!

I could never write a blurb about myself without mentioning the very special people in my life, as they have played a massive part in creating the person I am today. I am very lucky to have a close group of friends who have been like a second family to me, I’ve known them since I was a teenager, and they have simply been such a positive influence in my life (particularly the later years) that if any credit is attributed to me then they certainly deserve a large part of that credit as well. I’ve also been very fortunate to have met some simply fabulous people at university, we may be separated by some quite daunting mileage, but after all we’ve experienced together (the hysterical laughter, the insane news days, endless time spent in the Avid basement without sunlight, internet or phone signal) it doesn’t make a difference to our friendship.

Want to know anything else about me…? Then read what I write, because every sentence is all me.

Life can be terrifying, overwhelming, an uphill struggle and just downright dark sometimes, to the stage where you wonder what the point of it all is…but as someone once said to me…

‘Life is not about learning to survive the storm, but rather learning to dance in the rain.’

Thanks for this lovely and insightful introduction. You are at a most wonderful time in your life and career where discovery and perspective-building are the order of the day. I too was an English major who loved animals and nature. Life has been a glorious unfolding where even the missteps added value. All good things lie before you. ~Dawn Lennon

I came across your blog looking for some career advice, and I’m so glad I found it. I’m branching into a new career soon and into the unknown, which is quite nerve racking as its all fairly overwhelming, and occasionally I feel full of self doubt and questions. But your post on confidence, and even your comment here, has made me see that I’m just starting out, and any experience, good or bad will be of value to me. So thank you 😉

        Steph,

I’m delighted that I was able to offer a few right words to give you encouragement. We all tend to be so hard on ourselves when we take on unknowns as though we should somehow miraculously know what to expect. Success comes from trial and error, so savoring those experiences makes all the difference.

Exciting times ahead for you. Onward!

        Please keep in touch.

        Stay well, ~Dawn
