All About Steph

27 Mar

The current life status

I’m a 21 year old pushing 22 year old ex student,  just finished off my last year at Coventry University studying Journalism and English, hoping to make my way in the big bad world by working as a feature writer. During my time at university I have learnt a lot in and out of the classroom, its truly a life experience as well as an academic one.

I’ve learnt a lot about people and the great and terrible things they are capable of, as a journalist writing for and about people I often find myself looking at what goes on in the heads of people causing them to act and react the way they do, people, everyday ordinary people never fail to amaze me with their selflessness or selfishness.

The working life

I’ve spent time writing for student publications, I was very proud to win the Ernest Petrie award for excellence in Journalism and to be nominated student journalist of the year, I’ve spent time working for IPC Media on their Woman&Home publication and I also spent time working on some popular animal publications like Your Dog, Your Cat and Horse and Pony magazine. Working with the professionals of the industry I aspire to enter into, gave me even more admiration for the profession of the journalist and I couldn’t help but be caught up in their enthusiasm and passion for what they do.

The ‘little bit of me’ part

I think the main thing I have learnt so far in life is that you should try and help someone who needs it if you can, if you do a good deed they are also more likely to help someone and that good deed passes from person to person spreading a little bit of happiness and good spirit across our world. With that theory in mind we can combat some of the awfulness that exists today.

As you can probably tell from reading this, I have an opinion about everything and am not afraid to say it, but I like to keep an open mind to new ideas and opinions and am not to proud to admit that I’m wrong. I’m an Aries and a redhead two things which define me big time, and if I could tell you only two things to sum me up that’s what I would say.

Favourite quotes part

Had to add this is because it is a favourite of mine to walk where angels fear to tread’

Birthday Surprise

26 Mar

On Friday I finished my last official uni lecture, was a bit of an anti climax due to a whole three people turning up but it was nice to get a sense of closure and finish by handing that damned deadline in on the same day and say goodbye to the lecturers for the last time in lectures. Despite finishing lectures and handing in my last piece of coursework, I still have a long way to go work wise, so I’m not quite at that point yet where I get all sad and weepy and remember those good old days of first year.

Anyway this isn’t about being weepy this is about being happy. I came back from lectures and found the flat decorated filled, with banners and balloons to celebrate my 21st birthday, lovely surprise as my birthday isn’t for another two weeks, but I was so pleasantly surprised, I wasn’t planning to celebrate much due to work constraints and the fact that my birthday is in the holidays when everyone goes home for Easter. (Its always falls at an inconvenient time of the year!)

After opening some wonderful presents and feeling all warm and fuzzy towards my flatmate and friend Rachel and Kayla for bringing some early sparkle to my birthday they whisked me away to Cosmos for a dinner where all my friends were waiting for me 🙂

Good food, good friends and just a great laugh having everyone together, perhaps not the most eloquent way of putting it. But I was so grateful to have people around me who cared enough to get together and organise a fun night out for me, so would just like to say a big thank you to all the girls. Its the nicest thing anyone has ever done for me and the most thoughtful, its made me positively enthusiastic about becoming 21!

Looming mid-life crisis? Over! If I have great friends like you guys then I’m partway there to getting something right in my life! he he

So a big thank you to Rachel Busby, Kayla Yates, Megan Chapple, Heather Campbell, Andrea Howard and Katrina Stevenson

for getting together for my birthday, for a wonderful and entirely unexpected surprise and for the fabulous presents 🙂

Love to all! x x x x

Cov Culture

20 Mar

Here is one of our many projects, we were asked to create a TV magazine show on entertainment in Coventry, myself my lovely friends joined together to create Cov culture, a fifteen minute show on entertainment happening in the local area.

Featuring Steph Bristow (Me) Andrea Howard, Katrina Stevenson, Teodora Beleaga, Amy Haycock, Megan Chapple and Heather Campbell

We all contributed our own bits and put a lot of work into it, I covered the theatre patch and managed to obtain an interview with Allan Pollock the playwright, we all lost sleep over this project and felt like pulling our hair out at one point, but hopefully the finished product was worth it! Enjoy!

Starting Point

20 Mar

Ok so this is my first blog, as a 20 year old I should probably of had one by now and been blogging for a large portion of my life along with the rest of the civilised world, but I suppose better late than never! This is a big step for me, after joining Facebook when I was 17 and Twitter at 19, its figures that I should make a technological breakthrough now so close to being 21. Be kind to me, after all blogging is an art and I’m a novice!

A bit about myself ….(because what else is the internet for if not revealing info about ourselves!)

I’m a 20, pushing 21 year old almost graduated third year from Coventry University, where I have been studying Journalism and English. Pretty close to finishing up now and entering the big bad scary world where I shall have to find employment! I’d love to be a feature writer for a magazine and have a done a few work placements for various magazines, that would be lovely! I’m an Aries (of course) and the traditional strong willed redhead, avid animal lover and consumer of all things literary. Summing up my life in a few sentences I sound sort of small, but thats how we all start out. Small

Enough with the life stuff, hopefully I’m going to be able to figure out to upload some of the various articles and projects I’ve done, so be on the look out!
